A Heart is a Home
The piece “A Heart is a Home” depicts blood flow through the body, and the shift of oxygen in the body. Looking into how the cardiovascular system maintains homeostasis within the body. All mammals operate on the shifting levels of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide within the body. The heart is one of the most important organs in maintaining homeostasis as it directs blood throughout the body and to the lungs; Enabling the body to breath, think, and act. On a smaller scale, the painting uses vibrant reds and blues to show the difference between oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood
Why They're Worried: Examining Experts' Motivations for Signing the 'Pause Letter'
This paper presents perspectives on the state of AI, as held by a sample of
experts. These experts were early signatories of the recent open letter from
Future of Life, which calls for a pause on advanced AI development. Utmost
effort was put into accurately representing the perspectives of our
interviewees, and they have all read and approved of their representation.
However, no paper could offer a perfect portrayal of their position. We feel
confident in what opinions we do put forward, but we do not hold them tightly.
In such dynamic times, we feel that no one should be resolved in their
expectations for AI and its future.Comment: 29 pages, 10 figure
Memory is Fleeting
Blue is meant to represent the calming and orderly state of the mind and contrasts the vibrant orange of the neurons. Orange is associated with dynamic, spontaneous movement, much like the haphazard growth and targeting of cells in AD. Degraded/dead neurons are strewn about, monochrome parts of the mind which have lost their communicating pathways and hold no substance, or color, both in relation to the blue memory, and to their orange neural counterparts. The potential neuro-regenerative properties of STEM cell research are green to showcase both their healing factor towards Neurons, and repairing the damage done to AD
